The past year saw TaikaTilaus achieve remarkable growth. In 2024 our customers managed a total circulation of 190 000 subscribers, sent over 185 000 invoices, and handled over 50 000 advertisements through our platform. This represents a significant increase over the previous year.
Many of our customers participated in our customer survey (in Finnish), and we are thankful for the candid feedback we received.
We believe the key measurable indicators of a SaaS product's success or failure are:- Usage volumes
- End-user satisfaction
- Customer satisfaction
While we can't directly measure the ultimate goals—growth and cost savings—that our ERP product aims to deliver, these metrics serve as the best proxies we have.
In line with our volume growth, TaikaTilaus company revenue increased to 655,000 EUR (+52%). This was primarily driven by new customers and the introduction of outsourced subscriber service. For the first time in our history, TaikaTilaus achieved positive free cash flow and profitability—an important milestone that allows us to invest more in product development, enhance our services, and provide even greater value to our customers.
Media Industry Insights
As a provider of subscription and paywall systems, TaikaTilaus has a focused yet valuable perspective on consumer behaviour in the media industry:
- Online payments dominate digital channels: In online subscriptions, payment services have largely replaced invoicing. Among orders placed through TaikaTilaus subscription forms, online payments now account for approximately 80% when both invoicing and online payment options are available. Monthly recurring card payments via payment service providers have become increasingly common. Based on this trend, we believe that other "buy now, pay later" services are also on the rise, although we lack direct visibility into their adoption.
- Invoicing is also growing: In other subscription channels, invoicing remains the primary payment method. Last year, the number of invoices sent via TaikaTilaus increased to 185,000 (+44%). Shorter subscription periods and multi-installment e-invoicing contribute to this growth. Particularly for digital newspaper subscriptions, e-invoicing is preferred when no other seamless recurring payment option is available.
- Paywalls are on the rise: Around 10,000 unique subscribers log into TaikaTilaus paywalls weekly. Family accounts and shared user credentials extend the reach of subscriptions. The technical environment remains fragmented—different digital versions of the same media rarely share a unified paywall system that allows immediate access after subscription to the web edition, e-paper, and mobile app.
Improving User Experience Through Communication and Support
At TaikaTilaus, we acknowledge the inherent complexity of our system. ERP systems tend to grow more complicated as they expand to cover new business requirements. In response, we concentrated heavily on improving communication and user support throughout 2024. Initiatives included the launch of our company blog, which is now the primary source for updates on the TaikaTilaus application and insights into industry trends. Additionally, we introduced a comprehensive support site with detailed usage guidance, complemented by the recent launch of an integrated sandbox environment that allows admin users to safely explore and test new features.
We also clarified our service offering on our redesigned website, notably by introducing a more uniform pricing structure and presenting a catalogue of integration partners.
Roadmap for 2025
For 2025, our strategic priority is clear: robust product development to ensure TaikaTilaus remains agile and responsive to the evolving media landscape. Key initiatives include:
- Delivery Cost Optimization: Better tools and partnerships to optimize the costs associated with print and digital distribution and invoice deliveries.
- Data Maintenance and Quality: Advanced tools enabling efficient data management and updates, including robust import/export capabilities for customer and distribution data, enhanced duplicate detection, and comprehensive data cleansing and validation processes.
- Enhanced Reporting: Delivering actionable, in-depth reports that empower our media industry customers and their sales and accounting partners with stronger data-driven insights.
- Improved Advertising Management: Investing in cutting-edge technologies to enhance the multi-channel reach and efficiency of our customers' print and digital advertising.
We are dedicated to continuously strengthening the foundation we've built, evolving to ensure TaikaTilaus remains the most customer-focused media ERP solution in the Finnish market.
Thank you for your continued trust and partnership. We look forward to achieving even greater success together in the year ahead!
